Celebrating Women's Equality Day 2017!

On August 26, Aleta and Allan joined guest host, Felicia B. Wright on Jax Engage with Angela Spears 1360FM and 94.7FM! August 26 was Women's Equality Day. So it was only fitting for all of the women business owners to share tips and resources on how to maintain balance in work and life.

Radio Interview Key Points

Aleta and Allan focused on how the two work together to execute weddings and special events. Allan shared how his military leadership experiences influences how he manages others. Aleta shared two resources for business owners to stay productive through tracking time on Top Tracker and task management on Asana.

Balancing Act

Aleta and Allan also discussed how the two keep their business separate from family life. On this occasion, the couple's 8 year old son joined the two in the radio station! He was their photographer and listened quietly in the recording booth. Allan also shared how Aleta is a natural planner in and out of the business— from weddings to family vacations.

History of Women’s Equality Day

• In the 1920s some women had the privilege to vote whereas African Americans and minorities were often denied the opportunity to vote
• It was a political campaign effort that lasted 72 years— called the Woman Suffrage movement
• In 1973, the United States Congress designated August 26 as Women’s Equality Day
• The 19th Amendment of the Constitution granted women full rights as citizens— the ability to vote and hold public office

An excerpt from the proclamation for Women’s Equality Day:

WHEREAS, the women of the United States have historically been treated as second-class citizens and have oftenbeen denied the full rights and privileges, public or private, legal or institutional, which are available to male citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the women of the United States have united to assure that these rights and privileges are available to ALL citizens equally, and

WHEREAS, the women of the United States have designated August 26, the anniversary date of the certification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which culminated a 72-year, non-violent campaign to extend the right to vote to women, as symbol of the continued fight for equal rights: and

WHEREAS, the women of United States are to be commended and supported in their organizations and activities.

To continue honoring women and their contributions, we would like to share that National Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 to October 15. One prestigious woman that comes top of the mind is Sonia Sotomayor. Sotomayor is the nation’s first Hispanic U.S. Supreme Court Justice!
